Story Hinter den Kulissen

The little butcher's 1x1

GVFI sees itself as a long-standing service provider for its loyal customers and wants to remain their first point of contact for expertise in the field of imported meat.

It is therefore important that GVFI continues to develop its broad expertise and pass it on to new and young team members, despite the acute shortage of skilled labour. On the one hand, this concerns the process and administrative workflows and, on the other hand, the technical meat procurement skills should remain in place.

The daily exchange of the latest and most up-to-date information takes place in the trader office, the core of GVFI in Basel. GVFI employees pass this information on to customers in Switzerland and Europe in an appropriate form.

In order to continuously develop the expertise of GVFI employees, they take part in various training programmes on an ongoing basis. This year, our youngest GVFI team member Giora Salzmann, who joined GVFI with experience abroad and a commercial background, was able to do an internship in two of our customers' businesses and get a taste of the basics of butchery.

During the short switch from the office desk to the butcher's shop, Giora was able to familiarise himself with the entire meat production process, from slaughtering to catering. He was also able to put his manual skills to the test by cutting up poultry and pigs and helping to make paddies. Giora will be able to benefit from the many insights gained from the practical processes in his career at GVFI for a long time to come.

Story Sustainability

Angus and Hereford from Ireland

More than half the surface of Ireland is used as pasture grazing for cattle and sheep. The island's location in the Atlantic Ocean combined with the effects of the Gulf Stream ensure that Ireland has a mild climate.

Quality Management

Quality is firmly anchored in our thinking and actions. To ensure that the products meet our requirements, we carry out a series of checks. During the incoming goods inspection, for example, we check compliance with the product specification and declaration as well as the packaging and presentation of the goods.
